Walking with the Ramblers in the Lake District

Every year, the Ramblers' Association organises more than 750 walks in the Lake District. Our walks are intended for members of the Ramblers' Association, but non-members are welcome to join any walk provided they contact the leader beforehand. Dogs are not always welcome on walks: please ask first.

Grading scheme
1 More than 2500 feet of ascent
2 1500-2500 feet
3 1000-1500 feet
4 500-1000 feet
5 Less than 500 feet
6 Fairly flat

A Very strenuous, possibly including difficult or exposed scrambling, very steep and/or exposed climbs, and/or very rough moorland
B Strenuous, possibly including easy scrambling, steep climbs, and/or rough moorland
C Moderately strenuous, possibly including fairly steep climbs, and/or fairly rough moorland
D Easy walking on good paths or grassland

Walking on your own

There is a vast amount of information about walking in the Lake District: maps, books, videos, and web sites. On your first visit to the Lake District, it's a good idea to visit local bookshops or tourist information centres, where you will find a wide selection of guide books for all kinds of walks.
